The Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, held in Baku, saw a sensational performance from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The Defending Champion led from Pole position till the chequered flag. He was the leader for the entire 51 laps of the Baku Circuit, an unprecedented achievement.
In winning the race, Verstappen recorded consecutive victories, having won the previous race in Monza. Undoubtedly, the Dutchman has hit a rich vein of form and is ready to give Piastri and Lando Norris a good run for their money.
At the Baku City Circuit, Verstappen clocked 1:33:26.408, a good 14.609s clear of Mercedes’ George Russell, who secured second place after defying Carlos Sainz Jr of Williams, who secured his first podium in the season and Williams’ first since 2017.
Oscar Piastri, the leader of the pack, having won 7 races for McLaren this year, crashed out on the first lap and though compatriot Lando Norris had a great chance to cut Piastri’s lead, he had a messy pit-stop. The resultant delay pushed Norris to 7th, behind Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda.
The race was a disappointment for Ferrari, as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished 8th and 9th, respectively.
It was another great day for Verstappen, who now has 4 victories this season, and with 7 races to go, the Formula 1 Championship is set for a dramatic climax.
Next up… Marina Bay, Singapore.
