Manchester City got their campaign back on rails after a commendable 3-0 win over arch rivals Manchester United at the Etihad. The Manchester derby, the first of the season had positives for City and a sea of concerns for United.
Erling Haaland, with a brace, and Phil Foden, making a resounding return with a fine header, sealed it for Manchester City. Donnarumma in Goal on his debut ensured a clean sheet. Khushanov was sprightly as the right back. Rodri appeared to be getting back in his stride. Doku was energetic and had a fine assist in one of the goals. Lots of positives for City after a couple of losses and a good start after the International break.
Manchester United had nothing to cheer right through the game. They were outpaced and out manouvred by a team clearly driven by more intent and purpose, and were extremely well organised. United just didn’t have a chance. The City defence put their bodies on the line in a desperate effort to block a few of United’s moves.
Benjamin Sesko made no impression on the match for United. Amad Diallo and Mbeumo tried their best but were not allowed to score. Bruno Fernandes and Ugarte did nothing much, and the defence was disappointing. The subs like Zirkzee and Mainoo couldn’t do much either. It was a hapless performance. A goal might have lifted the spirits for the Red Devils, but it all ended in another sinking feeling.
Pep Guardiola must be a relieved man, but Ruben Amorim may just be lucky if he gets another week.
