Liverpool win late against Burnley

Turf Moor was tougher than expected for Liverpool, the defending champions, as Burnley, playing hosts, were miserly in their behaviour. They gave no free spaces to Liverpool to manoeuvre and kept the opposition forwards in strict check with a seemingly water-tight and organised defence.

Liverpool kept possession and kept mounting the pressure, and in the end, were fortunate to get a penalty, which Salah converted with ease in the 5th minute of stoppage time, to give Liverpool a hard-fought 1-0 victory and record 4 wins from 4 games in the EPL 25/26.

It was sheer dominance from the champions with over 81% of the possession. Burnley were just left to defend, but they did that well and almost pulled out a draw and a vital point. Liverpool had their chances. Ryan Gravenberch missed with a fine strike that went above the cross-bar, and then Hungarian Szoboszlai struck another quality shot, which Dubravka, the Slovakian Goalkeeper of Burnley, saved with a fine display of alert keeping.

Eventually, substitute Frimpong managed to get a penalty as his pass struck the hand of a defender in the dying minutes of the game. It was a lucky break for Arne Slot and his boys. Mo Salah, who had not done much in the game, converted with a powerful left footer, sending Dubravka the wrong way.

Liverpool won their 4th straight game of the new season, though a lucky one at that. The team still appears to be underperforming. Arne Slot needs to get it more organised, considering the arrival of new stars who understandably are taking their time in Liverpool colours.
