The die has been cast for the Men’s Final at the US Open 2025. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the top 2 players in Tennis, will once again come face to face in another Grand Slam Final, the third on the trot this year, with both tied 1-1.
Alcaraz was sublime last night in a 3-set victory over Novak Djokovic. The much-anticipated and talked-about semi-final did not light up the arena, barring a hard-fought second set, which Alcaraz managed to win in a tie-breaker, extending his imperious record in tie-breakers. Djokovic hardly had a chance. He could secure just a single break point against Alcaraz, which goes to show how well the Spaniard served. In contrast, Djokovic’s serve was a bit vulnerable as Alcaraz managed to have 7 break points, of which he converted 4.
Alcaraz eventually closed out the match with a 6-4,7-6,6-2 scoreline and a dominant one at that. It was clearly evident that Djokovic had passed on the baton to Alcaraz and Sinner for good.
Sinner had a much tougher contest against a driven Felix Auger-Aliassime. Though the top seed and defending Champion ran through the first set in no time, Auger-Aliassime came back strongly to snatch away the second set from Sinner to bring the match to an even keel. However, Sinner managed to win the 3rd and the 4th sets to settle the matter.
Sinner once again played well on big points, but his serving was a letdown. The Champion could manage only 56% of his first serves, which his opponent did take advantage of. Aliassime had 10 break points against Sinner in the entire match, which is a staggering number, though he could convert only 1.
Sinner also committed 5 double faults ( in the last match he had zero double faults), which indicated that errors once again had crept into his game. Against Alcaraz, a bit of a slip may lead to problems for Sinner, and hence, he needs to be at the top of his game on Sunday night. Sinner eventually came through 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
A blockbuster of a night awaits us. A true humdinger in the offing.
