Gifted with tremendous speed, an unmatched finishing ability, and two-footedness so rare, Son Heung-min, the greatest Asian footballer of all times and one of my favorite Footballers and sportsman, has bid Tottenham Hotspur, his team for a decade, a heartfelt good bye and would be joining the Los Angeles FC in a record deal.
Born in Chuncheon, South Korea, Son moved to Germany at the age of 16. He played for Hamburger SV, before moving to Bayer Leverkusen and then eventually signing for Tottenham Hotspur at the age of 23, where Son Heung-min prospered as a player and made his name in World Football.
Son served Tottenham Hotspur with great distinction and got the Premier League Golden Boot Award for scoring 23 goals in the 2021-22 season. He was elevated to the captaincy in 2023, the year which saw him become the first Asian to score 100 goals in the Premier League. Son led the Spurs to Europa Cup Glory this year, ending a 17 year trophy drought for the London Club.
His contribution has been immense for Tottenham. With Harry Kane leaving two seasons ago, Son Heung-min had a huge load on his shoulders and though Tottenham suffered in the 24-25 season in the EPL, Son gave his best at all times.
The time however had come for him to leave. In the twilight of his career Son has decided to move to the US to leverage his skill and experience for a healthy bargain.
For Tottenham, another void has been created at the Club, and they would be required to fill Son’s big shoes to launch a strong campaign in the upcoming 25-26 EPL season.
The ‘Son’ of Spurs has left the shores of England to rise again in the States.
