Chelsea vs PSG: Lock Horns in New Jersey
The MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, was abuzz with expectations as two iconic clubs of Europe with a rich footballing history were about to face each other in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup last Sunday. Chelsea from England and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) from France were to lock horns for the coveted World Title.
PSG: A Force To Reckon With
PSG have been a real force this year, winning almost everything that has come their way. The Champions of France were sensational in the UEFA Champions League and were deservedly crowned European Champions. The World Title was nothing more than a natural progression. Indeed, PSG were the favorites to get the better of Chelsea. However, destiny had something else in store.
Chelsea: No Pushovers Either
Chelsea had a much improved English Premier League outing and once even threatened eventual champions Liverpool with a brilliant start to the season. But a bit of a dip in between saw them lose traction. Eventually, a strong finish led the Blues to the 4th position, signalling their return to the Champions League. Chelsea carried their good run forward, winning the Europa Conference League with a tremendous victory over Real Betis. No wonder the Blues were no pushovers and extremely capable of causing an upset.
Cole Palmer: A Massive Talent
Cole Palmer, the hugely talented England and Chelsea striker and won of the best in the world, was at the top of his game. His ability to score with a mix of power, precision, and authority has put him in an exclusive bracket. PSG found out Palmer’s credentials as he scored twice in 8 minutes to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead in 30 minutes.
Palmer Scores Twice With Great Poise & Precision
Both goals from Palmer were fairly identical left footers, guided with supreme precision to beat Donnarumma in goal. It was pure class from Palmer. His placement was inch-perfect, with the ball just curling in slightly to enter the net. With 2 goals down so early in the first half, PSG found themselves in unseen territory.
Pedro Adds A Third As PSG Derail
Joao Pedro added the third for Chelsea with a lovely, sublime tap into the PSG goal, and the European champions had fallen behind in the first half itself. The celebrated PSG line-up, particularly Dembele and Desire Doue, appeared switched off, which had a telling impact on the outcome of the game. PSG struggled to make any headway in the second half, and though they did try, the Frenchmen were surprisingly too off-colour to make any impact on the scoreline. Chelsea defended brilliantly when the need arose and defied PSG right through.
Chelsea Claim World Title
Chelsea won the match eventually and were crowned Club World Cup Champions. Donald Trump, was at the match and presented the trophy to Chelsea. The Blues have now bagged two prestigious titles this year, marking great returns for the London-based Football Club.
A Subdued PSG
PSG put up a timid, subdued performance and paid the price for it.
Cole Palmer: England’s Brightest Star
What a victory for Chelsea, powered by Cole Palmer, England’s brightest star on the horizon.
