Lando Norris Wins A Dramatic Race
Fortunes took turns as the weather changed sides at Silverstone in a dramatic F1 Qatar Airways British Grand Prix. Lando Norris, starting at P3 on the grid, emerged victorious in front of his home crowd ahead of compatriot Oliver Piastri. Nico Hulkenberg driving the Kick Sauber rose like a Phoenix to take third position and his maiden podium finish.
Oliver Piastri Takes Lead As Verstappen Goes For A Spin
Verstappen started in P1 and led in the initial stages of the race with Oliver Piastri hot on his tail. However, the weather changed, and as rain began to fall on the Silverstone circuit, Piastri passed Verstappen to take the lead. With dry conditions quickly changing, Verstappen went for a spin and fell behind as Lando Norris got on the heels of Piastri.
Lando Norris Drives Home As Piastri Serves Penalty In The Pit
Piastri, however, was dealt a 10-second penalty for driving too slow behind the safety car, and as he waited in the pit to serve his penalty, Lando Norris took the lead and never looked back, till he surpassed the chequered flag with Piastri trailing him.
Hulkenberg Emerges Like A Phoenix
The day, however, will be remembered for Nico Hulkenberg’s maiden podium finish. The wet conditions sat perfectly for the Kick Sauber driver, who drove brilliantly from 19th position on the starting grid, cut through the traffic, and held off a charging Lewis Hamilton to take third position and his first ever appearance on the podium. Indeed, Hulkenberg’s success was the story of the day.
Verstappen Disappoints As Isack Hadjar Suffers Crash
Max Verstappen had to settle for 5th position with the dry-wet conditions upsetting his plans as he lost the advantage of starting first on the grid. It was not a great day for Red Bull as Yuki Tsunoda, having a forgettable season, claimed 15th position behind a lap from Lando Norris. Racing Bull’s Isack Hadjar suffered a bad crash but fortunately escaped without injuries.
A scintillating race ended at Silverstone with Nico Hulkenberg, the hero of the track for me.
