Virat Kohli : The Legend’s Sunset Is Near

Virat Kohli : The Legend Nears Sunset

Virat Expresses Desire To Leave Test Cricket

Virat Kohli has expressed his desire to quit Test Cricket. This news has spread like wildfire despite no official statement from the parties involved. This news has taken the cricket world by surprise but it was on the cards. With Rohit Sharma retiring and Kohli on the verge of it, it seems Indian Test Cricket has been dealt a double blow before the crucial 5 test series in England. Though I have a slightly different opinion.

Last Couple of Years Have Been Tough On Virat

The last couple of years in Test Cricket have been particularly difficult for Virat. His questionable form at the crucial no. 4 position has made life difficult for the Indian batting resulting in losses against New Zealand at home and also against Australia in Australia. The tour Down Under was a tough one for Virat. He scored only 190 runs of which there was 1 inning of a ton. The Legend struggled outside the off stump and his dismissals were a repeat of them all along. Clearly the great batsman was losing it and probably he knew that the time of his exit was just round the corner.

A Blessing in Disguise… May be

The England Tour right at the start of the new Test Championship cycle is indeed an extremely important series for India and Kohli’s presence could be critical particularly with the huge experience he brings along with him. But his absence may just be a blessing in disguise for Indian Test Cricket.

Terrific Young Talent Waits For Opportunity

It will be a great opportunity to rebuild a strong side and give opportunities to young players who are more than ready and raring to go. The middle order in particular is where the vacuum would be created. Players like Shreyas Iyer, Sai Sudarshan, Rajat Patidar, Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel are good enough to easily fit in. Despite Virat and Rohit going, India still would have a strong batting line-up and would surprise any bowling side, let alone England.

The Time Has Come For Virat Kohli To Pass On The Baton

In my opinion, it is probably the right time to look beyond Virat Kohli and signal the start of a new Era in Indian Cricket. Though I am a great fan of Virat, his sensational talent, his majestic ability to win games and an unparalleled work ethic, his sunset too is arriving and like any other great performer he may have to leave the arena which virtually belonged to him for more than a decade and a half.
