Two Free Kicks : The Talk Of The Town
Arsenal ‘s two incredible Free-Kicks from Declan Rice were the talk of Europe and the World when the Gunners hosted the Champions of Europe, Real Madrid, at the Emirates Stadium last night.
Arsenal The Underdogs
Arsenal were the underdogs as they took on Real Madrid, the might of Spanish Football and the most successful club in European history. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s Manager, had dubbed the clash as the most important match of his Managerial career with Arsenal.
Saka’s Return A Blessing For Arsenal
After a goalless first half, which saw Mbappe miss a couple of chances, the match came alive in the second half with a driven Arsenal peppering the Real Madrid box. The return of Bukayo Saka has been a blessing for Arsenal and the brilliant right winger earned a free kick for his team in the 58th minute.
Sensational Declan Rice
Declan Rice produced the best free-kick I have seen this season in all competitions. It was an incredible effort from the England International. The ball got past the wall and then curled in astonishingly to beat Courtois to his left. The best goalkeeper in the world arguably had just no chance, such was the precision of the strike. The shot left a sensational parabolic curve in its path. Arsenal were ahead.
Another Ripper From Rice
In the 70th minute, Bukayo Saka was again brought down outside the box and Declan Rice produced yet another outrageous free-kick to beat Courtois to his left with amazing accuracy. Two incredible strikes from Declan Rice ( there was no way it could have been done better) shook Real Madrid to the core, and 5 minutes later Merino struck a fine left footer to score Arsenal’s third. The Gunners had struck thrice in 17 minutes to hand Real Madrid a Real lesson.
Courtois’ Great Performance For Real Madrid
It was a match of great quality, probably one of the highest standards. Declan Rice’s performance will be remembered for a long long time. Even though Real Madrid lost, Courtois produced some jaw dropping saves to deny Arsenal and give Real some fighting chance in the second leg to be played out in Madrid.
The Contest Not Yet Over
With a 3-0 lead, Arsenal look good for a semi-final spot. However, the contest is by no means over and the second leg in the night of 16th April at the Santiago Bernabeu would be a mouth watering contest.
