Action Returns To EPL
Action returned to the all-important English Premier League after a 2-week International break. Nottingham Forest, fresh from their victory over Brighton in the FA Cup quarters, hosted Manchester United at the City Ground on the banks of the River Trent last night.
Nottingham’s Sensational Elanga
Anthony Elanga, Nottingham’s Swedish forward, produced a stunner 5 minutes into the first half. In a swift counter-attack, Elanga picked the ball just outside Nottingham’s Box and then made a sensational solo run, leaving behind United’s defenders with his blistering pace. After putting away some resistance in the end, Elanga ensured a sublime finish, beating Onana, United’s goalkeeper, to his left. The football on witness was of the highest quality. The Tricky Trees were ahead early.
Manchester United’s Night Of Misses
Manchester United, stung by the goal went on the offensive only to be denied each time they came close to scoring. Garnacho had several opportunities to score, but he just kept missing the target. United continued to stay aggressive in the second half too, but were denied by a brilliant Matz Sels ( who is enjoying one of the finest phases in his footballing career) and of course, by the extremely determined Nottingham defence.
The Tricky Trees Can Do No Wrong
A goal-line save in the dying minutes of the game summed up the story of the night. Despite 23 shots on goal, 10 Corners and 69% possession, Manchester United could not score the equaliser. They were both wasteful and unlucky, undone by a team that can do no wrong at the moment.
Nottingham Look All Set For UEFA CL
Anthony Elanga’s goal will stand out as one of the best in the season so far. His brilliance helped earn Nottingham a crucial 3 points and will help them fortify their position in the EPL table. A few good games and the Tricky Trees would all be set for the UEFA Champions League.
United Need To Introspect
Manchester United, after the loss, make no progress from their position in the bottom half of the EPL table, and though they played well they just can’t afford to be wasteful.
