The King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah played host to the King Cup of Champions Semi-Final between Al Ittihad, the favourites, and Al Shabab.

Al Shabab’s Cristian Guanca Scores A Terrific Double

The stadium packed to the rafters was in for some breathtaking football as Al Ittihad drew  first blood in the 14th minute from a well-executed spot kick from Fabinho. However, the tables turned when Al Shabab’s 32-year-old Argentinian Midfielder Cristian Guanca produced an absolute ripper of a strike in the 64th minute. Acres away from the Al Ittihad box, Guanca struck fiercely and beat the goalkeeper to his right with sheer pace and precision on the ball. 3 minutes later, Guanca doubled his tally to turn the match in Al Shabab’s favour.

A Final Twist Was Waiting To Happen

Stung by the Guanca double strike and trailing, the yellow and black stripes stepped up the pressure on Al Shabab. However, as the minutes passed, the match began to slip away. But there was a final twist in the tail as the game entered stoppage time.

Danilo Pereira Al Ittihad’s Hero

Danilo Pereira, the Portuguese veteran produced two goals in stoppage time to turn the tables on Al Shabab and put his team in the Finals of the King’s Cup.

Joy And Despair

Al Shabab players fell to their knees, distraught at the steal from Al Ittihad, while the men in black and yellow stripes celebrated with gay abandon.

What a match!!
