Newcastle End 56 Year Wait, Win EFL Carabao Cup At Wembley

Newcastle Win Carabao EFL Cup

A Sensational Newcastle United

A sensational performance from an inspired Newcastle United at Wembley  saw the Magpies beat favourites Liverpool 2-1, to win the EFL Carabao Cup.

Brilliant From Dan Burn and Alexander Isak For Newcastle

Dan Burn in the 45th minute got the Magpies going with a majestic header to beat Kelleher in goal. Alexander Isak, then in the 52nd minute sealed the match for Newcastle, with a superb one-touch finish from a brilliant Murphy setup.

A Subdued Liverpool

A listless Liverpool got one back in the end through Chiesa, but that was too little too late for the Reds.

An Extremely Driven Newcastle

The Magpies just wanted it more. They were extremely driven and played with great intent while Liverpool appeared a shade of themselves and lacked the zeal which they possess in abundance. Probably they were still recovering from the loss to PSG. The EFL Cup final was just too soon for them.

A 56 Year Wait Ends

Newcastle United were deserved winners breaking the 56-year jinx of a trophy drought. Eddie Howe has to be credited with transforming a team that once was struggling to keep off relegation. The change of ownership in 2021 and the appointment of Eddie Howe has eventually paid rich dividends.
