Sabalenka Too Good For Badosa
The Defending Champion and World no.1 Aryna Sabalenka defeated her best friend, Spaniard Paula Badosa 6-4,6-2 to reach the Finals of the Women’s Singles of the Australian Open 2025.
A Weak Second Serve A Problem for the Spaniard
Badosa tried hard, played a good match but faltered with her second serve to give the edge to the powerful and intimidating game of her friend from Belarus. A weak slice on the second serve sat up well for Aryna who unleashed her ferocious forehand time and time again. No wonder Badosa won just 47% of her second serve points compared to a much much better 65% for Sabalenka. This eventually was the difference between the two players.

Sabalenka Mounts Huge Pressure
The reigning Champion with her powerful groundstrokes created so much pressure on her opponent that she was unable to wriggle out of it. Badosa could have targeted the back hand of Sabalenka a bit more, but failed to do so. Sabalenka had 9 break points of which she converted 4, while Badosa converted the only breakpoint she had in the entire match, but still could not make much difference to the outcome of the contest.
Looking Good For A Treble
Sabalenka is looking good to win her third consecutive Australian Open and would be challenged by a belligerent and gritty Madison Keys.
