Sinner Breaks Aussie Hearts
World No.1 and defending Champion Jannik Sinner produced an incredible level of tennis to break Aussie hearts at the Rod Laver Arena, in the much hyped Quarter Finals of the Australian Open 2025. Alex de Minaur, the challenger, was found wanting and succumbed in straight sets. The Sinner Storm had ravaged the opponent 6-3,6-2,6-1.
The Italian Has A Lendl and A Novak In Him
Whenever I see Jannik Sinner he reminds me a lot of the great Ivan Lendl and to an extent even Novak Djokovic. Those extremely focussed eyes, a no nonsense approach to his game, hardly any weaknesses, a steely temperament, an unflinching defence and so much intent.
Alex De Minaur Out Run By Sinner
Alex de Minaur, the local favourite had hardly any chance in the match as he was completely out run from the baseline by Sinner. The longer the rallies became, the more the match shifted in Sinner’s favour as an exasperated de Minaur could not keep up with the virtually error free game of the young Italian.
The Crowd Knew And So Say The Stats
The packed to capacity Rod Laver Arena went largely silent as they watched their local Hero being dismantled by the tournament favourite. De Minaur could manage only one breakpoint in the entire match as compared to 10 by Sinner. The Italian won 85% of points on his first serve and 80% on his second as compared to 65% and a lowly 41% respectively for de Minaur. The fans quickly realised that an upset was impossible and sat down quietly to see the match unfold.
Its Sinner vs Shelton in the Semis
Sinner will now take on Ben Shelton of USA who got past Lorenzo Sonego, Sinner’s Italian compatriot, in the Semis on Friday.
A big ask for Shelton indeed.
