Rain Washes Away Benfica’s Luck
It poured and poured in Lisbon last night and with it washed away the hopes of the home team Benfica to register a famous win against the great Barcelona. Instead, the Catalans turned the tables on the Portugese, wiped out a two goal deficit and took the honours in stoppage to win a 9 goal thriller.
Barcelona Sitting Pretty In Champions League
It was game 7 of the UEFA Champions League and with this win Barcelona are sitting pretty in the second spot, now assured of a place in the play-offs having won 6 of their 7 games, while Benfica drop down to 18th position.

Pavlidis’ Efforts Go in Vain
The night was hijacked by Vangelis Pavlidis, the Greek Benfica Forward, who scored a magnificent hat-trick. Pavlidis was brilliant with the ball and his finishing was nothing but the best. However, so bizarre were Benfica otherwise that Pavlidis’ heroics could not save Benfica.
Bizarre From Benfica
The home team were poor in defending and at times callous. They have away two penalties which Lewandowski converted with ease. Then Anatoliy Trubin, Benfica’s Goalkeeper took a goal kick which hit an unaware Raphina, the ball ricocheted off his body and went straight into goal. It was bizarre.
Resolute Barcelona Seal Victory
Barcelona are too good a team to let go such gifts and kept on coming back into the game. Garcia scored from a well directed header in the 86th minute to level up at 4-4 after being 2-4 down and then the sublime Raphina took a through ball, ran in with great speed from the right flank, wrong footed Trubin and scored 6 minutes into stoppage time to give Barcelona a tremendous victory and Benfica a massive heartbreak.
Catalans Snatch It In the End
A thriller of a contest, which Barcelona eventually wrested from Benfica in a dramatic fashion. Hansi Flick, Barca’s Manager went up and down, unable to control his emotions from the side lines. What a game, what a win !!
