Sabalenka Drops Set For The First Time in AO’25
The two time Defending Champion Aryna Sabalenka dropped the first set of her Australian Open ’25 campaign, but managed to get past a hardworking Pavlyuchenkova in the Quarter Finals.
Sabalenka Races Away…
The Rod Laver Arena dressed in majestic Blue was a sight to behold as World No.1 and the favourite Sabalenka captured the first set 6-2 in 31 minutes and it so appeared that the second set would be s breezy one.
…But Held By Pavlyuchenkova
Pavlyuchenkova, then played some exquisite tennis as surprisingly Sabalenka’s game saw an unusual drop. Pavlyuchenkova won the second 6-2 to push the match into the final set.
The Champion Manages To Get Through
The hard hitting Sabalenka, with her powerful serve and heavy ground strokes from the baseline kept her in the game and eventually came through 6-3 to win the match.
A Scrappy Match Indeed
It was a match that did not get to the heights but was fairly entertaining in bits and pieces. The defending Champion played the crucial points in the final set and scraped past a resurgent Pavlyuchenkova.
Badosa Awaits The Champion
Sabalenka would be playing Spaniard Badosa on Thursday to stake claim for the Finals on Saturday.
