The Euphoria Short -Lived

The Euphoria of United’s victory against struggling Southampton in a dramatic hat-trick by Amad Diallo, just 3 days ago, was short-lived. Brighton, a much stronger opposition was too much for United to handle. Onana, blew hot and cold and the Seagulls rocked the hosts.

Brighton – No Easy Opponents For United

Brighton had won on their two previous visits to Old Trafford, a rare feat only bettered by Manchester City, who had won 3 straight games at United’s fortress. Brighton, though a small club as compared to Manchester United,  has been brilliant with the kind of solid football they have been playing since graduating to the Premier League a few seasons ago. Their performance last evening was no different.

Manchester United’s Equaliser The Only Joy For Fans

For most of the match Brighton controlled proceedings and scored through Minteh in the 5th minute. Manchester United responded and Zirkzee (who was brilliant for United throughout) won a penalty which a misfiring Bruno Fernandes converted. That was the only piece of joy, United fans could have in the match.

Mitoma -Rutter Seal The Match After An Onana Slip

Mitoma, Brighton’s Japanese Seagull scored in the 60th minute and became the highest scoring Japanese in the history of the EPL.Onana then missed a sitter. A harmless ball he failed to grab, which landed on the feet of Georginio Rutter who gleefully tapped the ball in, thus pushing the game beyond United’s grasp.

No Miracle Coming For Manchester United

A miraculous escape akin to Southampton’s game was needed. But no miracle happened for United. Amad Diallo could not do an encore and United succumbed 1-3 to a resolute, gritty and purposeful Brighton. Ruben Amorim’s press conference post the match said it all. The 13th position on the EPL leaderboard was telling but United had it in them to turn it around, he said.

Brighton, thus became one of the only two teams ( along with Manchester City ) to win 3 consecutive games at Old Trafford. Once a United Fortress, but now under siege.
