An Electrifying Draw At St.James’ Park
St James’Park, home to Newcastle was witness to an electric game of football last night on Match Day 14 of the Premier League. The football was of the highest quality at a breathtaking face. It was a duel akin to a boxing match with both opponents sparring at each other. This is how Newcastle and Liverpool fought on the pitch and eventually the match ended in a fiery 3-3 draw.
Liverpool vs Newcastle And A High Scoring History
The match lived up to its billing. The two teams have had a history of high scoring matches which saw another game being added to the list.
A Powerful Alexander Isak Strike Puts Newcastle Ahead
Alexander Isak, the Swede produced a rocket of a strike to put Newcastle ahead in the 35th minute. Kelleher, Liverpool’s goalkeeper who has been in good form was beaten by the sheer power of the strike by Isak. The ball just flew of the boot of Isak and ended on the net in no time. It was a stirring blow, which Liverpool have not been used to this season.
A Brilliant Volley From Curtis Jones Equalises For Liverpool
The Reds, however were not going to cave in to the Magpies and a good run from the right by Salah, an inch perfect pass to a rushing Curtis Jones and a brilliant one touch strike by the young star saw Liverpool equalise in the 50th minute.
Anthony Gordon Impresses Again
I have been extremely impressed by Anthony Gordon and no wonder he did not disappoint. He put Newcastle ahead in the 62nd minute with a fine strike. The 23 year old is some talent and I won’t be surprised if he makes a big move in his career shortly.
The Incredible Salah Gives Liverpool The Lead
Liverpool were playing catching up, but then Mo Salah showed why he is so vital for the Reds. He produced two incredible strikes amidst a host of Magpies in the box. In the blink of an eye and with hardly any space to manoeuvre he first struck in the 68th minute and then again in the 83rd minute, he received the ball, turned and buried the ball in the net in no time. It was all precision and class from the great Egyptian.
Kelleher Misjudges As Newcastle Equalise
Liverpool were ahead 3-2, but another twist in the tale was waiting to happen. A long ball in the 90th minute, which was well within the reach of Kelleher, was let go by the keeper. The ball fell on the feet of a rushing Fabian Schar who guided the ball into the net to snatch a point for Newcastle. It was an error of judgement from Kelleher. He let the ball go thinking it would go out of play, but that was not to be. A lurking Schar spoiled Kelleher’s day.
A Deserved Draw- Liverpool Stay On Top
Both teams deservedly shared points and though Liverpool could have won the game they should not be too disappointed with the result. Liverpool stay on top of the leaderboard with a good 7 point lead over second placed Chelsea.
Mo Salah was exceptional again with one assist and two goals for Liverpool. He deserves a new contract. He has earned it.
