The Estadio Mas Monumental
The Estadio Mas Monumental, the largest football stadium in Argentina and South America, was packed to the rafters. The fans had arrived with huge expectations. Their home team was playing Bolivia for World Cup Qualification. Last week’s draw against Venezuela was a bit of a disappointment, but on home turf, a better show was on everyone’s mind.

An Inspirational Leo Leads La Albiceleste
The massive stadium hosting almost 90k people had a deafening buzz. Their legend and hero Lionel Messi had delivered a masterclass in football. The hapless Bolivians had nowhere to hide as La Albiceleste led by Messi pounded them with 6 goals and secured a crucial runaway victory. However, the night belonged to the never-aging, inspirational Messi, who scored three exquisite goals to register a classic hat-trick and further set up Lautaro Martinez’s goal in a selfless display of brilliant teamwork. Julian Alvarez and Thiago Almada were the other scorers.
The First Goal: Vintage Messi
The first goal from Messi was a clean strike off his famous left foot. The timing was so precise that the moment he got the ball in the box he let it go. The Goalkeeper I felt had covered the ball, but it came quickly enough from Messi to beat the Goalkeeper’s left hand and pierce the little gap between the post and the outstretched hand in the 19th minute.
The Second Goal: Messi’s Splendid Shift
The second goal was even better. With hardly any space available in the box, Messi moved to his left with the ball glued to his left foot and the moment he was about to unleash a shot, he shifted the ball to his right, perfectly balanced, and struck from his not-so-strong right foot. The goalkeeper was slightly wrong-footed and so were the defenders, as the ball kissing the turf went into the net. It was the 84th minute.

The Third Goal: Pure Magic From Messi
Two minutes later, Messi showed why he is still the best. His famous left foot was in business again. This time around he did not switch the ball to his right but carried it to his left to find that little bit of space to strike. Messi found that space and unleashed a powerful shot, despite losing balance. The ball was so perfectly placed that the defense and the goalkeeper just did not have a chance. It was pure magic from the greatest of magicians the world has seen. The Bolivians just stared in awe. Messi had virtually schooled them.
