Match Day 7
The Match Day 7 of the English Premier League threw up some intriguing matches, top notch football, brilliant saves and great goals. Liverpool secured a hard fought win to stay atop the EPL table. Defending Champions Manchester City too had to grind hard for a 3-2 against a much improved Fulham. Arsenal secured 3 points against Southampton, while a lacklustre Manchester United managed a draw against Red hot Aston Villa. However, Brighton ‘ The Seagulls ‘ and Brentford ‘ The Bees ‘ impressed me the most and are the teams of the Week.
Resolute Brighton
Brighton, though have a 123-year history of Football, its only the last few years that their returns in the English Premier League have been substantial bracketing them in an elite group of Teams. The London club on Sunday showed why it is being regarded as a potential threat to the mighty clubs as they engineered a spectacular comeback to win 3-2 against Tottenham Hotspur after being 2 goals down at halftime. The Spurs went over the boil after scoring 2 goals, probably underestimating Brighton’s resolve and the caliber the seagulls had.
A Great Comeback from The Seagulls
Brighton went up another gear in the second half and looked much more promising and enterprising with the ball. They made quick in-roads and eventually were rewarded for their intent and scored 3 goals in 18 minutes through Minteh, Rutter and Welbeck, to snatch the game from Tottenham, who remained absolutely clueless in the second half. The crucial victory at the Falmer Stadium ensured Brighton the 6th position on the table, and good for more.
Aggressive Brentford on Matchday 7
Brentford ‘ The Bees ‘ stung the hapless Wolves ‘ Wolverhampton 5-3 to secure 11th position in the EPL table. The Bees have impressed me since they made their debut a couple of seasons ago and have only progressed under their excellent Manager Thomas Frank who has been instrumental in building a tremendous side for the London Club. 5 goals pumped in reflects the goal-scoring abilities and on their day Brentford can be a handful for any football club in the world.
Seagulls & Bees – Loads of Intent
Brighton and Brentford have neither huge purse strings and nor they have celebrity players to boast about. They just have loads and loads of intent and tremendous self-belief—my teams of the Week.
Doku Scores a Ripper At Etihad
Manchester City survived a scare from Fulham at the Etihad Stadium. Ederson, City’s goalkeeper was at the top of his game and kept Fulham in check. There was some serious pace from Adams and Nelson and at times City defenders found it difficult to keep pace. However, City survived and Jeremy Doku, the young Belgian scored an absolute ripper to ensure City’s 3-2 victory. His right footer from the left wing outside the box, flew across the goalkeeper, swirling away, beating his outstretched left hand, into the goal. The sheer power behind the strike was overwhelming and for me was the goal of Match Day 7.
Match Day 8 coming up this weekend is going to be another humdinger.
