It was Liverpools’s first home game of the season and also new manager Arne Slot’s first home appearance. Brentford, the Bees from London, were going to be tough opponents. Both teams had won their first game and an interesting battle was on the cards. A sea of red had besieged Anfield.
Liverpool just took 13 minutes to get on the scoresheet. A brilliant counter attack saw the Reds breakthrough. Luis Diaz ran across the field and scored with his not so strong left foot. It was a terrific finish to a pulsating run. The Bees were caught off guard. Alisson Becker was good too, making a terrific save to deny Brentford and then it was vintage Salah in the second half. A mild touch from his majestic left foot sent the ball safely into the net. The goal sealed the match.
Diaz and Salah had stung the Bees, giving them some of their own medicine as Arne Slot became the first Manager to win his first two premier league games in the history of the EPL.
Liverpool impressed and particularly on the counter attack they were just too good. A bit of it must be attributed to Arne Slot. The players looked fresh, confident, determined with loads of intent. These early signs are a big plus and combined with the bench strength available, Liverpool have a formidable line up.
Liverpool travel next to Manchester to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on the 1st of September. It would be Liverpool’s first big test of the season. A cracker of a game is expected at Old Trafford and with Erik Ten Hag under immense pressure it would be interesting to see how Manchester United respond. Liverpool in my opinion have the edge simply considering the way they are playing and should come through unscathed.
