A cracking innings of 123 at Guwahati, laced with 13 fours and 7 sixes, a staggering strike rate of 215, against a formidable Australian Team. This is what Ruturaj Gaikwad can deliver. He is from a new breed of players in International Cricket who are bound to set batting standards for the rest of the community to follow. Some may feel this to be an exaggeration, but the more I see of Ruturaj, the more I am convinced that the world has unearthed an exclusive batting star.
Ruturaj – Sublime & Audacious
As a batter, not only has he got the basics right, but is gifted with astonishing flair. He has no pumped-up muscle to brutalise balls and hammer them around the park, in fact, he is lean, but the power he generates in his strokes is simply incredible. He is extremely well-balanced while batting and has loads of time while receiving the ball which gives him the added advantage of playing late. He is blessed with sublime timing which is the reason he generates so much power while hitting those massive sixes. There is profound intent and audacity in his stroke-making, which can be very unnerving for any bowler.
A Twin to Shubhman Gill
In International Cricket at the moment only Shubhman Gill, Rachin Ravindra and to an extent, Harry Brook seem to have that delightful technique and an unabashed modern streak, which is so evident in Ruturaj’s play. In fact, it would be fair to say that Shubhman Gill and Ruturaj are cricketing twins. Though Shubhman has already cemented his place in the Indian Team, Ruturaj has still some distance to go and this period of waiting would also be a test of his patience and temperament
Indian Cricketing Future in safe Hands
Post the Kohli and Rohit era I can foresee a similar era developing for India in the future, showcasing Ruturaj and Shubhman. The young twins are ready to take the mantle forward and keep Indian Cricket at the top of the heap.
Ruturaj will be seen in action again, as India take on Australia in the 4th T20 at Raipur tomorrow.
