Tenacious Liverpool Snatch A Point At Manchester City’s Etihad

City Host Reds

It was the 175th meeting in the English Premier League between Manchester City and Liverpool with City playing the hosts to the Reds, at the Etihad Stadium. With 4 teams jostling for the top spot at the end of week 13, the meeting between the great rivals was a critical one and being a home game for City, they were the favourites, and so they began.

Prolific Erling Haaland Sets Up Another Record

Erling Haaland has been scripting his own story, since his Premier League debut last year and has kept the record book writers busy all the time. This Saturday afternoon was no different as the burly Norwegian scaled another peak in his young career. Manchester City were at the Liverpool goal, pressing hard for a breakthrough and the ever lurking Haaland found that little space to get his left foot going. Though Alisson Becker got his finger tips to the ball, the power was enough to carry it to the goal and City were ahead in the 27th minute, with City fans going up in rapturous applause. It was Haaland’s 50th goal in the premier league and he became the fastest to 50 goals in the history of the league.

Super Becker

Liverpool were on the defensive with Manchester City in a relentless mood to get further ahead in the game. Alisson Becker and his team defence thwarted all attempts and kept the City forwards in check. Becker in particular was superb under the bar and stood like a wall. There were desperate times and Liverpool somehow managed to keep the gap to just one goal and then came a Trent Alexander Arnold special.

An Exquisite Strike From Trent Alexander Arnold

Alexander Arnold who has been so vital to the Reds line-up, has been struggling with his form, but then the class he carries came to the  fore at the right time. In the 80th minute, the Reds triggered a purposeful move. Luis Diaz had been trying hard from the left flank and seeing the approaching Mo Salah from the right, Diaz looped the ball to him, who with his fine touch set up Alexander Arnold for a scorching right footer. The power behind the shot was exceptional and so was the direction. The ball just sped away across the turf in a diagonal trajectory beating Ederson to his right. It was a magical strike, the first goal by Alexander Arnold, this season.

Liverpool Hold On to Salvage A Point With Some Needle At The End

Manchester City went for the kill to get 3 points, but brave Liverpool held on to salvage an extremely important point. The draw would surely make Liverpool much happier than the City folks. A hard fought game ended with the stakes being shared. Surprisingly there was a not so friendly altercation between Darwin Nunez and Pep Guardiola at the end of the match, just after a good friendly hug between Pep and Jurgen Klopp. “A bit of spice for dinner”.

Arsenal Snatch Pole Position

Arsenal slipped past City and Liverpool to take pole position after beating Brentford by a solitary goal. The top 3 teams are separated by a solitary point in between them. With 1/3 rd of the season over, this appears to be a closely fought one. All to play for.

Good going Reds !!
