A 100 Million ‘Threads’

Battle Rage

The social media Universe is witnessing a raging battle for supremacy. The ambitions are fierce and the stakes are high, leading to two of the world’s biggest tech giants crossing swords with one another. Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Elon Musk are grappling for the lucrative and cherished attention of billions of Social Media Users. The introduction of ‘ Threads ‘ by Zuckerberg, an App designed to counter Twitter has simply set the rumblings afire.

The Threads Threat

Threads which is born out of Instagram created a record by reaching 100 million users in just 5 days, eclipsing quite easily the previous record held by ChatGpt which took 2 months to reach the 100 million figure. Threads,  an imposing threat to Twitter, did not go down well with Elon Musk. An irked Musk came up strongly against Threads calling it a senseless exercise and a replica of Instagram devoid of pics.

Threads Vs Twitter battle on the Cards

A Combative Twitter

Twitter which is faced with its battles after the Musk takeover has been witnessing dwindling patronage and is fighting hard to keep its flock intact. Elon Musk not surprisingly threatened legal action against Threads for poaching its staff, intellectual property and trade secrets. Threads on the other hand enjoyed a massive opening across the world, reaching a humongous 100 million without the support of Europe where it could not be launched due to legal issues with the Privacy policies of the European Union. However, there are diverse views too on the success of Threads.

A Threads Bubble ?

The critics have put a caution on this overbearing response to Threads. They consider it grossly deceiving as most of the subscribers are in fact  Facebook and Instagram users who have just opted for a new platform and have displayed their loyalty towards Mark Zuckerberg. It will be interesting to witness how Threads holds up against an established Twitter platform and how does it weans away die-hard Twitter users to the Threads stable.

Cranking Up Innovation

In this ensuing battle ( which is yet to hot up really ), social media users are going to benefit the most. Competition to outpace one another will fuel innovation and lead to some out-of-the-ordinary features on both platforms in the near future. It will be also interesting to see how Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg battle it out personally in this Twitter vs Threads Battle.
