The International Mother’s Day was celebrated yesterday and though I appropriately wanted to post my views on the D-Day itself, the very assimilation of thoughts and an attempt to bring everything together in the context of mothers has taken me time, such is the variety and expanse of a mother’s realm. To narrow down my focus, I therefore decided to view Mothers from a Management perspective, which has thrown some thoroughly interesting and perfectly true revelations.
An Astute sense of Time
Time Management is a flair which Mothers inherently possess. I have seldom seen Mothers falling short in matters of time. They are right on the money each day every minute. Generally they are the first to rise in a household to ensure that things move smoothly as required during the day. To enable their children begin their day perfectly, Mothers work with clock work precision and they never ever procrastinate. They seldom waste time. They are the time keepers of their house and are extremely good at it. Comparing this with institutions, having managers with time management skills is a great advantage and such skills are very well cherished too.
Multi-Taskers of the Highest Order
There is no better Multi-Tasker than a Mother. Its her passion driven by her love for her child, that makes Mothers do multiple chores at one point with aplomb. And if the mother is a working woman, the degree of multi-tasking is enhanced and so is the difficulty. But the Mothers manage such difficulties exceptionally well. They are extremely skillful in prioritising work and combine mental and physical tasks seamlessly. Working Mothers generally get more adept at handling multiple tasks. The unavoidable nature of the tasks at hand make them that good. Managers with Multi-Tasking abilities are not only revered by Institutions but are held in high esteem.
Great Planners & Organisers
An effective, result oriented multi-tasking involves great planning and organisational skills, not to mention the ability itself to perform such tasks. Mothers are absolutely adept at it. Just imagine handling or overseeing cooking, dropping kids at school, keeping the house in order, looking after the elderly, creating an environment for studies and recreation, managing the expenses, paying bills and supporting the bread earners with a helping hand of themselves, requires some threadbare planning and disciplined organisational acumen. Mothers simply have it, akin to a divine intervention. It comes naturally to them. Institutions, at times pay a truck load of money to possess the best planners and organisers in their fold. This ability is priceless.
Resilience is Second Nature
I have yet to come across a single mother who is not Resilient. Mothers have an unflinching resolve and a determination which is virtually impossible to shake off, particularly in situations involving their children and their household. Hardships may sometimes be inevitable but succumbing in despair is certainly isn’t. Mothers just pick themselves up every time and surmount challenges. However hard the job may be, there is no quitting in parenthood and mothers are never the ones to be cowed down. In institutions resilient managers are a blessing and are worth their weight in gold.
Visionaries
Mothers may or may not display, but always carry a vision for their children. It is this vision which fuels their daily energies, powers their efforts and keeps them going. The uncompromising vision which they foster for their children is the bed rock for their selfless, unconditional, tireless and compassionate demeanour, . More often than not the striving mothers turn their vision into reality like skillful leaders guiding their organisation to success.
Exceptional & Divine
Communication, empathy, the ability to inspire, motivate and guide are some of the other attributes of Mothers. They are leaders in the truest sense and in my opinion motherhood should be equated to effective leadership. Another point which needs to be understood is that all these attributes of a leader possessed by mothers are irrespective of their educational or familial backgrounds . Motherhood is the only qualification required and all the virtues of a great leader simply develop inherently ever so seamlessly. This is exceptional and divine.
In my conclusion I can only say that Mothers are exalted mortals and living under their shadow is a mighty blessing.
