A Clear, Undeniable Kickstart

The Team Building Series

Once a  Team is formed and Team members boarded, welcomed and introduced into the Project at hand, creating  a clear start, defining objectives, roles and responsibilities in no uncertain terms is critical for sustainable team development.

Objectives

An undeniable purpose, an indisputable  objective and  an unquestionable ambition are essential to kickstart a team. A team without clarity on its objectives shall remain inefficient and will struggle to meet expectations. The purpose resembles a canopy under the aegis of which the team performs. Team leaders therefore need to be vigilant not to allow dilution of the purpose by extraneous factors, so that the expected results are not compromised.

Roles and Responsibilities

If roles and responsibilities of each team member are not clearly outlined there is a great possibility of tasks being duplicated, repeated or even missed. An ambiguous instruction  may lead to resistance rather than collaboration, which in turn may give rise to conflicts, annoyance, disagreements and loss of direction and motivation. Therefore, it is imperative to define roles and responsibilities with utmost clarity and set realistic expectations. A collaborative team is ultimately a winning team.

It is therefore that much relevant to have an effective kickstart session before a  Team gets on to the job. An easing of the nerves, settling of apprehensions and a clear orientation right at the start helps build a cohesive team, thus completing the ‘ Forming’ process of Team Building.
