Teachers Day Special
A change agent by definition is an individual from inside or outside of a company/organisation, whose objective is to help revitalise a company/organisation in response to changing circumstances. However there are a few special individuals who not only revitalise organisations but also revitalise lives.
Ms. Matty Fernandes was one such Teacher. She had spent her life in our school and had dedicated herself to teaching. She was vastly experienced, had huge knowledge of her profession, and her approach to work was both mature and sensitive. Without doubt she had all the pre requisites of a change agent.
She was particularly adept in English and had command over it. Be it written expression, diction, pronunciation, voice modulation and articulation, Ms. Matty was seamless and exuded authority while teaching. She was quick to gauge the weak and then worked hard at them to make them better. I was one such student and It would not be an exaggeration to say that Ms. Matty Fernandes is majorly responsible for making me learn how to speak. She took me under her wings and trained me no end. She handled me with sensitivity and helped me repair and rebuild the confidence which I was severely lacking.
Slowly but surely I became better and better at speech delivery and the new found confidence helped me to fiercely compete and win Elocution Competitions. This success rubbed on to my academics and sports as well and led to my overall development. A once sulking child had been transformed into a positive individual, a go getter. Her encouragements and instilling in me a zeal to do better each day, changed my life for good. I owe a lot to Ms. Matty Fernandes. My last meeting with her was 31 years ago. She had retired, but her reservoir of energy was absolutely intact .
Ms. Matty Fernandes was a great change agent and certainly it was my good fortune to have her as my mentor when I needed utmost care.
She had revitalised my life and that of several others too.
