Cultivating a reading habit in me was my father’s initiative. His subtle efforts in bringing me books, taking me to book fairs and even reading out to me, had a defining impact on my interest in reading.
Our country too has been blessed with some exceptional reading material for children. From the Chacha Chowdharys, Pinki, and Billu, to the Champaks and Tinkles and many more, the list was endless and ushered me well into the infinite world of reading.
Slowly and steadily with age, the types of books, the authors, the genre, started to take shape and after a long long stint with paperbacks and hardcovers, I was introduced to Kindle, an amazing book reading tool, where one could carry an entire library in one’s pocket.
Kindle made reading even more easy and particularly when on the move, at the airports, in flights, in trains and helped me remain in touch with my interest, which my father always wished.
We therefore need to inculcate the habit of reading in children from an early age, which will eventually lead to an informed and matured society and of course create a huge market for writers like us.
