Mild spoilers for the setup of Season 4. Re:Zero Season 4 has already aired, from April to September 2026, so the question is no longer whether it could be Subaru’s hardest journey but whether it earned that label. The setup suggests it did. Here is why.
Starting From Heavy Losses
The season follows Subaru and his allies after the attack on Priestella by the Witch Cult. Rem remains unconscious under the influence of the Archbishop of Gluttony, Crusch has lost all her memories, and Julius no longer has a name. Instead of chasing a single victory, Subaru is trying to recover what his friends have lost.
A Harsh Expedition
To find answers, the group crosses the dangerous Augria Desert toward the Pleiades Watchtower, where a sage is said to hold what they need. The season adapts Arc 6 of Tappei Nagatsuki’s light novels, which one outlet describes as the most psychologically demanding stretch of the story.
A Split Season With Two Arcs
The 19 episodes were split into two arcs. The Loss Arc ran for 11 episodes from April 8 to June 17, followed by a break. The Recapture Arc began on August 12 and the season finished on September 30, 2026. Crunchyroll streamed it across most regions, including India. Some fans worried before launch that 19 episodes might be too few for the material, so pacing was a talking point.
Why the Series Suits This Kind of Story
Re:Zero has always been about a hero who cannot simply win. Subaru’s ability to return from death is painful as well as powerful, so stories about loss and memory fit it well. White Fox returned for a fourth consecutive season, with Masahiro Shinohara directing and Kenichiro Suehiro composing.
