India's Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are congratulated by India's captain Shubman Gill (2R)

Gill Shuts Down Critics with Strong Support

India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill has made it clear that he has full faith in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After the third ODI against the West Indies in New Chandigarh on Saturday, Gill was asked about the two veteran players. His reply sent a clear message to critics who have questioned their future in the team. Kohli is 37 years old, and Rohit is 39. Some people have debated whether it is time for younger players to get more chances. But Gill dismissed that talk.

Recent Performances Speak for Themselves

Kohli and Rohit have both been in good form during the West Indies series. Kohli scored an unbeaten century in the first ODI. Rohit hit a big score in the second ODI. In the third ODI, he came close to another hundred but was dismissed for 92. Gill pointed out that Rohit has been batting really well. He said that in the last four innings, Rohit has scored three hundreds. Kohli has also been batting well. Gill also praised KL Rahul for stepping up whenever he got a chance. He said Rahul has done the work for the team and batted brilliantly.

No Time to Experiment

There have been suggestions that India should rest Kohli and Rohit for a few games to give new players opportunities. But Shubman Gill ruled out that possibility. He explained that there is not much time to experiment in ODI cricket these days. He said the team wants to start playing with the combination they plan to use in the World Cup. He hopes that all players will be available from the next series. He wants the team to begin building that combination as soon as possible.

Captain’s Confidence Matters

His comments show that he has confidence in the senior players. For any player, having the captain’s trust is very important. Both Kohli and Rohit seem to have that trust. Gill’s support also shows that he values experience. He knows that Kohli and Rohit have been important for the team in the recent past. They are still performing at a high level. That is why he does not want to rest them or drop them from the team.

Looking Ahead to the Next Series

The Indian team now has a break of about a month. Their next ODI assignment is against New Zealand. Shubman Gill said he hopes all players will be available for that series. He wants to use that series to prepare the combination for the World Cup. The World Cup is the main goal, and Gill wants the team to be ready. He does not want to waste matches on experimentation. He wants to build a settled side.

What This Means for Indian Cricket

Gill’s statement is a clear message. He is not worried about the age of Kohli and Rohit. He is focused on their performance. As long as they are scoring runs, they will be in the team. The focus is on winning matches and preparing for the World Cup. Gill wants the best players on the field, regardless of age. For now, Kohli and Rohit remain key parts of India’s ODI plans. Their form in the West Indies series has justified the captain’s faith in them.
