Roberto Mancini, who left almost half the squad in Florence to rest, made 8 changes to the squad that was beaten by Belgium and handed debuts to Ruggeri, Kayode and Sebastiano Esposito, the older brother of Pio Esposito. It was brave from Mancini, as his fresh squad responded brilliantly to their Manager’s call.
First-Half Blitz
Italy built a dominant 3-0 lead before halftime with goals from Alessandro Bastoni (9′), Davide Frattesi (22′) and the very impressive Michael Kayode (27′) to virtually seal off the match. The conditions were difficult with heavy rain, a slippery surface and a wet ball. But the Italians adjusted brilliantly, playing with great coordination. The Turks, on the other hand, gave away the ball easily and defended poorly to leak three goals in the first half.
Türkiye Response
Barış Alper Yılmaz pulled one back for the hosts early in the second half (47′) off an Oğuz Aydın cross. There was still a flicker of hope, but the joy was short-lived as another poor effort in defence led to the 4th goal.

Sealing the Win
Pio Esposito added Italy’s fourth goal in the 50th minute, heading in a rebound off Sandro Tonali’s shot against the post to extinguish Türkiye’s comeback momentum. The goal resulted from a poor pass from Altay Bayindir.
A Great Result For The Azzurri
The win marked a great result for Roberto Mancini after losing to Belgium in Rome. The conditions were tough, but the decisions taken by Mancini were tougher, which eventually resulted in a much-needed win for the Azzurri.
