Konyaspor host Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super League tonight. Here’s everything to know about the teams, key battles, form, and our prediction for the match.

Konyaspor needs points, and they need them quickly. Four matches into the new Turkish Super League season, they are still waiting for their first point, while Trabzonspor arrive in Konya with seven points and the confidence of a 5-0 win over Genclerbirligi in their previous league game.

The two sides meet at the Medaş Konya Büyükşehir Stadyumu on Saturday, September 12, with very different objectives. Konyaspor are trying to stop a disastrous opening from becoming an early-season crisis, while Trabzonspor are looking for their first away victory and a result that could push them further towards the top of the table.

Can Konyaspor Finally Get Off the Mark?

Konyaspor have lost all four of their league matches, scoring only three goals while conceding eight. Their latest defeat, a 1-0 loss to Erzurumspor, was particularly frustrating because they had 66% possession and created more attacking opportunities, yet still left the pitch empty-handed.

That tells the story of their season so far. The problem has not simply been a lack of possession; it has been turning that possession into decisive moments. Against Trabzonspor, they will need to be more efficient because giving the visitors repeated opportunities to attack could quickly expose the difference in quality between the two sides.

Konyaspor can, however, take some encouragement from their previous meeting in Konya, where they beat Trabzonspor 2-1 in April. That result shows they are capable of making this fixture uncomfortable, but their current form means they cannot rely on history alone.

Why Trabzonspor Have the Edge

Trabzonspor’s biggest advantage is the momentum they carry into this match. Their 5-0 victory over Genclerbirligi was Hüseyin Çimşir’s first game in charge after Fatih Tekke’s departure, and the response from the players could hardly have been stronger. Paul Onuachu scored twice, while Mohamed Salah, Ernest Muçi, and Franculino Dju also found the net.

Onuachu is particularly interesting because Konyaspor are facing a striker who has repeatedly caused them problems. The Nigerian has scored six goals in four previous meetings with this opponent, giving Trabzonspor a proven route to hurting a defence that has already conceded eight times this season.

There was some concern when Onuachu was substituted before half-time against Genclerbirligi, but Çimşir later played down fears of a serious injury, and the striker was included in Trabzonspor’s travelling squad for this match.

The visitors are not without weaknesses, though. They have yet to win away from home this season, and four players, Arseniy Batagov, Tim Jabol Folcarelli, Ruslan Malinovskyi, and Okay Yokuşlu, were left out of the squad through injury. That could make the trip more difficult, particularly if Konyaspor manage to turn the game into a physical contest.

Where Could the Game Be Won?

The key could be what happens when Trabzonspor has possession around the edge of Konyaspor’s defensive block. The hosts are likely to protect the centre and make the visitors work for openings, but that approach becomes dangerous if Salah, Muçi, and the other attacking players are allowed to combine in the spaces just outside the box.

For Konyaspor, the best opportunity may come when Trabzonspor commits numbers forward. The visitors’ desire to finally win away from home should encourage them to attack, and that can leave spaces for quick transitions. If Konyaspor can exploit those moments rather than simply surrendering possession, they have a realistic route back into the contest. Trabzonspor should still have enough control to limit those opportunities. Their attacking options give them more ways to change the game, while Onuachu provides a physical target that can turn crosses and direct passes into genuine scoring chances.

Prediction

The prediction comes down to the contrast in confidence. Konyaspor have lost four from four and are still struggling to convert promising periods into goals, whereas Trabzonspor have already shown that their attack can overwhelm an opponent when it clicks. The visitors’ away record and injury list make a clean, comfortable victory less certain, but their superior attacking quality should eventually tell. Konyaspor may make the game competitive for long periods, yet Trabzonspor has more players capable of producing the decisive moment. Prediction: Konyaspor 1-2 Trabzonspor.
