Aston Villa Are Travelling to Bruges…
Aston Villa are travelling to Bruges, one of the most beautiful towns in Europe. However, the beauty of the place is hardly on their minds, as Unai Emery’s side will be facing a tough test from Club Brugge in the opening game of the UEFA Champions League 26/27 season, tomorrow evening, at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
… To Face A Confident Club Brugge
Club Brugge have been in good form and are placed 3rd on the Belgian Pro League leaderboard. With 4 wins out of 5 ( their only loss to table toppers Gent in a close game), the Belgians are in good shape and will be formidable opponents at home. Coached by a tough Croatian in Ivan Leko, the Blue-Blacks, as they are called, are raring to go.
A Poor Start Has Pegged Back The Villans…
Aston Villa, on the other hand, have had a rather poor start to the English Premier League. The Villans were smashed by Brighton, then lost to Manchester City and then were held to a goalless draw by Hull City. The insipid start has led them to the 17th position in the EPL table and, to everyone’s surprise, they are yet to score a goal.

… But They Have Quality to Trouble Brugge
The confidence of the Villans has taken a beating, and Unai Emery is just finding it difficult for a new side to get going. Nicolas Jackson, Buendia, and John McGinn will have to be at their best in Bruges if Aston Villa has to come back unscathed. The bench too, with Garnacho and Wan-Bissaka, has to play their part. Barkley and Kamara have to get the midfield going.
The Hosts Too Have A Good Mix of Youth & Experience
For Club Brugge, Nicolo Tresoldi, their young German forward, is a good bet, with Hans Vanaken a crucial cog in the midfield. His experience will be crucial for Brugge. In Yan Sommer, they have an excellent goalkeeper and a good defence to go with it.
Considering the recent performances, Club Brugge may just have the edge.
