Rashford Had Done Enough…
On loan from Manchester United to Barcelona, Marcus Rashford played his part to perfection. Scoring 14 goals and assisting another 14 in 49 games for the Catalan Club, the Englishman had helped Barcelona win La Liga and the Spanish Supercopa last season. Rashford thought he had done enough to stay at Barcelona, but that was not to be.

Barca had an option to make Rashford their own for about €30m, but decided against it, despite the 28-year-old’s performance last season. Rashford would thus return to Manchester United with a looming uncertainty as Michael Carrick prepares for a challenging upcoming season.

Barcelona did have the purse for Rashford, but went ahead with Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for €70m, tightening the space for Rashford. Michael Carrick, though, has given positive signs on Rashford’s arrival at Old Trafford. It could just be a blessing in disguise for Carrick if Rashford is meticulously used. Manchester United might just have received a lucky omen.
