The 23rd Commonwealth Games have officially kicked off in Glasgow, Scotland (running from July 23 to August 2, 2026).

Host & Scale: This marks the fourth time Scotland has hosted the Games (and the second for Glasgow, following 2014). The event features athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.
Streamlined Format: Designed as a leaner, cost-effective model, this edition focuses on 10 core sports held across four venues within an eight-mile corridor in Glasgow.
Featured Sports: Athletics, swimming, 3×3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, artistic gymnastics, netball, boxing, and judo (alongside integrated para-sports).
Australia topped the medal table at the previous Commonwealth Games (Birmingham 2022) and will start as favourites this time too. It marked Australia’s 12th time finishing at the top of the overall standings in Commonwealth Games history.
Australia’s performance was heavily anchored by their swimming squad, which won 25 gold medals in the pool alone. With a total of 67 golds and an overall tally of 179 medals, the Aussies dominated the games.
England, the hosts, with 58 golds and a total tally of 176 medals, came a close second, while Canada, with 26 golds and 92 medals, stood third. The Indian contingent, with 22 golds and 61 medals overall, was fourth on the leaderboard.
