Spain Humble Austria
Spain humbled Austria a few hours ago at the Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood to advance to the Round of 16, in what was a seamless performance from the Champions of Europe.
Austria Were Lacking In Spirit & Arsenal
Austria were never in the game. Their 3-3 draw against Algeria had sucked out all the energy, it seemed. They just didn’t have the arsenal to take on a rampant opposition.
Sublime Football, No Theatrics
There were no theatrics from Spain, just brilliant open play, punctuated by 3 fluent goals. It was utterly sublime, hardly a struggle, not a lot of sweat either.
Spain’s Left Flank, Led By Cucurella, Was Incredible
The left flank of Spain was incredible, if there is a better word to describe the performance from that flank. All three goals were structured perfectly from the left as Cucurella, Spain’s left back, who can transform into a left winger with nonchalant ease, provided two assists alone. A Baena assist was again from the left.
Oyarzabal’s Exceptional Finishing
Oyarzabal, who is in the form of his life, played his role as the Centre forward to perfection and scored twice with minimal effort, but incredible finesse and composure. His finish on both occasions was magnificent to say the least.
Pedro Porro Too Joins The Fun As Yamal Misses A Few
Pedro Porro also helped himself to a superb header from a left-flank cross. Spain had made it 3-0, and though Lamine Yamal missed countless chances to score, the three goals were enough to give Spain a comfortable win over the Austrians.
Portugal Scrape Past Croatia To Meet Spain in the last 16
Spain will now play Portugal, who scraped past a resolute Croatia in Toronto with a close 2-1 win. Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty to equalise after a vintage Ivan Perisic strike gave Croatia the lead. Super Sub Goncalo Ramos then headed home in stoppage time to give Portugal a place in the last 16. The match, however, ended in controversy after Josko Gvardiol’s goal was disallowed.
A Towering Challenge Awaits The Portuguese
It was not a great performance from Portugal, and they will need to step up a few notches if they wish to pose a serious challenge to Spain at the Dallas Stadium on Tuesday, July 7, 12.30 am IST.
