The Netherlands & Sheer Dominance in Group F
The Netherlands dominated Group F, winning it comfortably with 7 points and 10 goals, in a display of sublime football, with their emphatic 5-1 win over Sweden being the icing on the cake. Brian Brobbey has been a revelation for them, scoring thrice in two games and taking a holistic view, the Dutch are in prime form.
Morocco: A Hard Nut in Group C
Morocco in Group C also secured 7 points and were second to Brazil only on goal difference. The gritty Atlas Lions have been consistent in their performance, though yet to hit peak form. Ismael Saibari, with three goals, is in great touch too and can cause damage to any team on his day.
Only One Can Survive
The sad part is that the Netherlands, quarter finalists at the last World Cup and Morocco, the semi-finalists last time around, have run into each other in the Round of 32, in a strange draw. It is such a shame that only one of the two teams will go ahead. A European or an African-Arab will surely be jolted, and football fans will lose a great team early in the Tournament.
Knockouts: A Different Kettle of Fish
The knockouts are a totally different kettle of fish compared to the Group stages. There is no second chance. A small mistake and you may be on the next flight home. The form in the group stages may not necessarily guarantee a knockout win. Temperament plays a critical role in such games. It is a do-or-die situation, and only the ones strong in their heads survive.
The Dutch Look Good To Go Through, But The Atlas Lions May Spring A Surprise
On present form, the Dutch look good to seal it and force their way to the Round of 16. The Atlas Lions and AFCON Champions will not be easy to dismantle, though, and may even surprise the Orange Army.
A Penalty Shootout May Be
A Penalty shootout may well decide the outcome. Joy for one and lots of pain for the other.
