45 Nations Are Descending on the shores of Northern America, as Mexico, Canada and the United States of America, get ready to co-host the FIFA World Cup, from the 11th of June till the 19th of July.
All of 26 member teams, representing every continent on earth are geared up to contest and fight for the coveted World Championship. For most of the players it is a once in a lifetime experience and a proud moment to represent their country. A piece of history which will be told to their generations to follow. A story of bravado, which will inspire their countrymen.
The football field trimmed to perfection. The lines marked brilliantly, the boxes defined meticulously, await the players. Their colour, caste, creed, community, religion or pedigree notwithstanding, the lush green arena is waiting to welcome all. Inclusivity is in Football’s DNA, it knows no inequality, it shuns boundaries, and embraces only the spirit of sport, the spirit of healthy competition and the skill on display.
Teams across the economic and socio-political spectrum will be displaying their footballing skills irrespective of their GDP, enriched uranium stockpiles, nuclear warheads, the size of their Army, or the number of billionaires. The playing field is levelled to the core, be it the Africans or the Asians, the Nordics or the South Americans, the Europeans or the Americans.
The USA and Iran and a Cluster of GCC countries are all entangled in a dangerous situation, but still Iran has arrived in the US to participate in the World Cup against all odds. This is the power of Football. It simply has vetoed all disagreements to the bin.
The World will be in complete order atleast till the World Cup lasts. I hope it stays that way even beyond the tournament.
