It is the biggest day of the year in European Football
It is the biggest day of the year in European Football as the UEFA Champions League Final gets underway between defending Champions PSG and challengers Arsenal, in a few hours from now at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
The Stakes Are Massive
The stakes could not have been higher for both teams. Arsenal would be gunning for their first ever Champions League and PSG would be aiming to become only the second team after Real Madrid to win back-to-back Champions League Titles.
Arsenal Are Unbeaten in the Champions League This Season
Arsenal, buoyed by the Premier League title in 22 years are still unbeaten in the Champions League this season. The Gunners got the better of Atletico Madrid in two tough, cagey battles, winning 2-1 on aggregate. The two legs were not the most attractive, but Mikel Arteta’s team survived and came through to make their first Champions League final in 20 years.
PSG Have Been Valiant
PSG fought valiantly against Bayern Munich in the Semi-Finals and won in two epic games on a 6-5 aggregate. PSG won 5-4 in an incredible match in Paris and then drew 1-1 in Munich to settle the tie in their favour. PSG too, look a confident side after back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, and it has to be said, are playing sublime football under Luis Enrique’s tutelage.
The Gunners Are Solid Across The Field
The Gunners will be relying heavily on Viktor Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka to put pressure on the PSG defence with their pace and precise finishing. With David Raya in goal and a terrific midfield in Declan Rice, Odegard, Kai Havertz, and Trossard, Arsenal will not be easy to dismantle.
PSG Have An Audacious line-up
PSG, however, have some exceptional attacking flair in Kvaratskhelia, who is playing as well as ever and with his pacy runs from the left flank and the ability to score, the Georgian could be a handful for Arsenal. The mercurial Dembele, Desire Doue and Bradley Barcola add great strength to the Parisian Club. With the wizard Vitinha in the centre and Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi in defence, PSG have an audacious line-up.
PSG Are Ahead, But Only Just
It is going to be a historic day, irrespective of the winner. And though it is a bit risky to predict the Champion, on paper, PSG are a better side, ever so slightly. The Parisians might just pip Arsenal to the post.
