Sinner dumped out of French OpenA tennis player sits on the clay court in defeat as his opponent celebrates victory at Roland-Garros.
A Shocker In Paris

In one of the most shocking results in recent history at the French Open ( barring last year’s men’s final), Jannik Sinner, the top seed and the almost invincible Italian, was dumped out of the Open in the 2nd round.

Jannik Sinner & A Baffling Loss…

The World No. 1, leading two sets to zero and ahead 5-1 in the third, dramatically suffered severe heat exhaustion in the hot Parisian weather and woefully succumbed to it. Sinner could hardly stand on his feet and despite taking a medical break, the Italian was not even a shadow of himself on the Philippe-Chatrier court as a shell-shocked audience watched Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundolo take down Sinner in a rush, winning 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.

… And Misplaced Bravado

It was baffling to watch a great player just fall to his knees so dramatically. However, I was surprised that he continued despite the panic attack, which he has been suffering with of late, only for his fans to bear the agony of seeing him go down. It was nothing but misplaced bravado. Sinner should have retired and saved his already wilting body from being further battered in the heat.

Big Questions Demand Answers

The question, however, remains. Does Sinner have the strength, both physical and mental, to play best of 5 sets, in conditions which are not to his liking?. He suffered in the match against Medvedev in the Italian Open Semi-Final and had the match not been suspended overnight, Medvedev surely would have won it.

Jannik Sinner’s Big Entourage A Waste?

What surprises me is that the long entourage tailing Sinner with trainers, physicians and doctors has not been able to address this loomingly large problem with Sinner for quite some time. It is indeed baffling in my opinion.

Fans Left Heartbroken

The fans were left heartbroken, and to be fair to Cerundolo ( who is not being discussed at all), he certainly was better than Sinner last afternoon, at least physically, as he comfortably withstood the heat. We should never forget that great athletes are not only sublime with their skills but are both mentally and physically irrepressible.

Great Athletes Need Holistic Vitality

The fans’ hearts will mend, but they need to be aware that if Sinner doesn’t solve the issue pertaining to his holistic vitality ( both temperamental and physical), several more heartbreaks may well be coming down the line.

Sinner Owes It To His Fans

Jannik Sinner owes a lot to his fans, too. They pay thousands to come and watch him play and win. He has to do it for them. He does not need too much sympathy.

He just needs to call Novak Djokovic. I am sure the GOAT may well have a solution.
