Manchester City are delighted to reach Bernabeu in Madrid and take on hosts Real Madrid in the 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. The Los Blancos are not in the best of shape and without the mercurial Kylian Mbappe, City will fancy their chances against their formidable European rivals.
The injury list for Real is endless. Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Camavinga to name a few, will not feature in the contest tonight, which makes Real Madrid a tad weaker in front of the in-form City Team.
Vinicius Jr though has been in brilliant form and virtually carrying Real hopes on his shoulders, the challenge against Manchester City is going to be much harder and if City are able to contain Vinicius’ counter runs, the hosts will find difficult to score.
Güler, Brahim Diaz, Tchouameni and Valverde, will be required to step up their play, as they did against Celta Vigo in the La Liga a few days ago. A better performance from Rudiger and Trent Alexander Arnold will be a must for Real. No wonder it is going to be a big test for Manager Arbeloa.
Manchester City are literally spoiled for choices and with Erling Haaland fit and raring to go, City will be more than happy to unleash their talisman on Real Madrid. Antoine Semenyo has been in great touch since his arrival at City. Doku with his pace and ball skills will join Haaland and Semenyo upfront. Omar Marmoush may unfortunately miss out despite putting up a staggering show against Newcastle a few days ago.
The defense also is well equipped for Manchester City with goalkeeper Donnarumma returning with the gloves in place of the young James Trafford.
City by all means are the better side at the moment, but it is the Bernabeu where Real Madrid has fought great battles and when it comes to UEFA Champions League, Los Blancos have the finest and the most decorated history.
An interesting contest awaits.
