Manchester City had suffered two demoralising defeats in the last two games they had played. Going down to arch rivals Manchester United and then getting beaten by Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League a few days ago. City were without a win in their last 4 games in the EPL, and with Aston Villa close behind, a victory was urgently required.
City played hosts to bottom-placed Wolverhampton at the Etihad Stadium last night on Match Day 23 of the EPL. The former champions took the field with an interesting 4-1-4-1 formation with Marmoush and Semenyo both starting together for the first time, with Haaland benched to give the striker some well-deserved rest.

Marmoush, fresh from the AFCON, buried a fine cross from Matheus Nunes in a sublime finish from the Egyptian. His anticipation was brilliant too as he rushed towards the ball, beating the defence in an exceptionally well-timed move. City were ahead in the 6th minute.
Antoine Semenyo has been a revelation since joining the club and has not put a foot wrong. In an incredible move, the best I have seen from City this season, the setup was brilliant as the ball passed from one player to the other in a well-coordinated effort with Semenyo giving the final touches with a composed and precise finish, at the stroke of half time.
Haaland came as a substitute in the 74th minute as Manchester City also handed Marc Guehi, the centre-back signed from Crystal Palace, his debut for the Cityzens.
Wolverhampton could not score as City defended well to garner an important win and with it a crucial three points.
Pep Guardiola was extremely animated right through the match and looked relieved at the long whistle.
