AFCON To Begin In Morocco From 21st December

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the biennial football competition, comprising 24 Teams from the African Continent, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will begin on the 21st of December 2025 and shall culminate on the 18th of January 2026.

One of the most important tournaments in Football, the best in Africa shall descend in Morocco to compete for the coveted AFCON Title, with defending Champions Ivory Coast going all out to defend theirs. Egypt holds the record of the maximum AFCON titles (7).

The Tournament gets underway with host Morocco taking on Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday, the 21st of December.

The 24 Teams divided into 6 groups of 4 each, shall initially play out the group stage, consequent of which, the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, shall move to the knockout Round of 16. This will be followed by the Quarter Finals, the Semis, the Third Place Play-off and the all-important final.

The matches will be held in 9 venues across 6 cities in Morocco.

Rabat will have 4 venues in Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Moulay Hassan Stadium, Rabat Olympic Stadium and Al Medina Stadium.

Tangiers will hold the matches at the  Tangier Grand Stadium.

Marrakesh Stadium in Marrakesh, The Fez Stadium in Fez, The Adrar Stadium in Agadir, and the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca will also hold the matches.

The following are the Groups:-

Group A: Morocco (H), Mali, Zambia and Comoros.

Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe.

Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.

Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin and Botswana.

Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan.

Group F: Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Gabon and Mozambique.

There are high expectations for the Tournament, particularly regarding the quality of football and fierce competition. With the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the AFCON will be great preparation for the teams which have qualified for the World Cup.
