The Eagles have a stranglehold over the Reds. This is the best phrase to describe Crystal Palace’s supremacy over Liverpool of late. The Londoners once again were the better side, more confident and more enterprising than their hosts, Liverpool, who welcomed Crystal Palace to Anfield last night.
It was the 4th Round of the EFL Carabao Cup. Liverpool, already suffering from losing 5 of their last 6 games in all competitions ( 4 straight losses in the EPL and 1 loss in the Champions League to Galatasaray), put up a B-Team on the field to match a strong Crystal Palace Unit. Arne Slot wanted to give a good rest to his senior pros before the EPL weekend, but the move backfired, leading to more misery for the Reds.
Ibrahima Sarr, Palace’s Senegalese forward, was precision personified as he scored a brace before halftime to give the Eagles an unshakeable grip on the match. Both his goals were sublime efforts. The finishing was exemplary from Sarr, as Liverpool’s poor defence was ripped open by Palace, as Sarr scored.
Yeremy Pino, the Spaniard, scored Palace’s third goal to cause further pain to an already deflated Liverpool team. The fans stood in disbelief as the Eagles mowed down the Reds to dump them out of the Carabao Cup.
Chiesa for Liverpool had a good chance to score, but he shot wide. In the entire match, Liverpool had just 1 shot on goal against 8 from Crystal Palace. It was a disappointing performance from Liverpool, and indeed, they were the much weaker side. In fact, it would be fair to say that Crystal Palace had it easy and were never pushed.
Oliver Glasner, Eagles’ Manager, was humble in victory, as Arne Slot wore a worried look.
Liverpool’s sudden downward slide is looking ominous and scary for the Reds, while the Eagles are soaring.
