Al-Nassr have been in tremendous form this season. Unbeaten in the Roshn Saudi League so far, the Riyadh based club has kept a clean slate in all competitions so far, which is nothing short of incredible. Moreover, it is not just the victories the club is securing, the dominance therein, is what is making people stand up and take note.
Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr failed to win any major title since the arrival of football’s icon and the most expensive player on earth. Ronaldo, though, has put up a great show in the 3 years he has been with the club, the absence of silverware has taken a considerable sheen off his tenure in Saudi Arabia. However, this season there is something different in the air.
With disenchantment brewing amongst the Al-Nassr fans, the club made major changes. Jorge Jesus came in as Manager and two fine players in Joao Felix and Kingsley Coman were roped in to strengthen Al-Nassr.
No wonder, the changes have worked so far, with Joao Felix becoming an ideal foil for Cristiano Ronaldo. The young Portuguese has already netted 9 times in 6 games in the Saudi League, which has not only lifted the burden of scoring from Cristiano Ronaldo, but has also given a much needed dynamism to the club.
Joao Felix, a remarkable talent, gifted with great ball skills, a brilliant sense of timing and a flair for scoring has made Al-Nassr a dominant force this year. He has fitted perfectly in Al-Nassr’s complex jigsaw puzzle. With Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kingsley Coman supporting each other magnificently, Joao Felix has been allowed to unleash himself on the opposition.
Felix, in his brief stint with Al-Nassr, has already scored two hat tricks ( one against Al-Taawoun and the other against Al-Fateh) and has already scored 11 goals in 10 matches in all competitions for Al-Nassr so far this season. It has been an incredible beginning for Joao Felix, and if he maintains his staggering form, Al-Nassr will be difficult to catch.
With a flourishing forward line, the defence has also become motivated for Al-Nassr. Last season, there were several occasions where Al-Nassr gave away last-minute goals, which hurt them badly in all competitions. The brittle defence compromised Al-Nassr’s advantage many times. However, this season has been different. The defence is tight, and in the 6 games played in the RSL, Al-Nassr have conceded just 2 goals, which is brilliant to say the least.
Felix’s performance is rubbing off on the others, which is heartening for Al-Nassr fans to experience. The young striker has solved a puzzling riddle for Al-Nassr.
Beware of the Knights of Najd; they have a Felix.
