Brighton Stun Manchester City

Brighton Stun Manchester City

Brighton are no pushovers in the Premier League. Fancied Manchester City learned a tough lesson as the Seagulls outsmarted City after being down a goal early and beat them 2-1 to record a memorable victory.

It is only after the 2004-05 season that Manchester City have lost two of their first 3 games in the Premier League. A statistic which City never wanted to replicate, but such has been their play that even more trouble could well be around the corner.

The Amex Stadium, home to Brighton, has been a painful ground for City as they lost here in November 2024 after scoring first, and yet again today, they slipped after Haaland had given them the lead in the 34th minute.

An unfortunate handball allowed Brighton into the game as 39-year-old substitute James Milner converted the penalty with ease in the 67th minute. The goal just spurred the Seagulls, and the match changed for good. Brighton, with fresh legs on the field after a spate of substitutions, ran hard and pushed City back.

Brighton were on the offensive as City began to cave in, and though James Trafford was in brilliant form holding the Seagulls at bay, young German Brajan Gruda scored for Brighton in the 89th minute to steal 3 points for Manchester City.

City were wasteful to say the least. Haaland missed at least two clear chances before he scored. Marmoush again was in good form and not only assisted the goal but set up Bobb with a terrific cross which Bobb missed. Effectively, City missed 3 great chances to score and paid the price for it.

For Pep Guardiola, it has been his worst start to the Premier League. Lots of work to do for the great Manager in the International break as they take on Manchester United at home in a mouth-watering derby on Sunday, the 14th of September.

The Seagulls soared high once again in their backyard and posted their first win of the new season after a draw and a loss.
