Indian Team – A Bunch of Fierce Competitors
The Indian Team proved to the world yet again that they are not only better travellers these days but are extremely fierce competitors too. A match which seemed lost for all money was held by the scruff of its neck by belligerent Indian batters led by the captain Shubman Gill and forced to be drawn. In over a day and a half of the Indian innings, England could snare just 4 wickets, 2 of which in the very first over of the innings.
Shubman Gill Scores his 4th ton of the Series
Rahul went for 90 early in the morning session, trapped leg before wicket to a sharp in-dipper from the injured but mercurial Ben Stokes. Gill got to his 4th hundred of the series but then departed before lunch to Jofra Archer as England took the new ball. India still had to hold England at bay, and as Jadeja was dropped on the very first ball he faced, the tide turned in India’s favour.
Jadeja-Sundar Fight With Bare Claws As India Draw
Washington Sundar has done enough to cement his place in the team as a very worthy all-rounder. His stubborn resistance on Day 5 ( not to forget his brilliant bowling) will go down as one of the finest knocks for India overseas. Deservedly, he reached his first Test century. Jadeja, a master at rear-guard actions, got to his hundred as well, as both southpaws stitched together an unbeaten 203-run partnership to defy England big time and draw the match.
England Bowlers Struggle on Day 5
The tiring English bowlers threw everything at the Indians, but were thoroughly counter-punched by the duo of Jadeja and Sundar. With the energy reservoirs depleting on a fairly good batting track, the English did not force the issue for long. They rested their quick bowlers, as Liam Dawson, Joe Root, and in the end Harry Brook took up bowling duties.
Sundar Gets To His Maiden Test Ton
The match ended the moment Washington Sundar reached his maiden hundred with the customary handshakes all around. Though the match was drawn, it was indeed a moral victory for India. They did not surrender and fought like Champions.
The Mercurial Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes, for his brilliant performance with both bat and ball, was declared the POTM. His 6 wickets in the match and a resolute 141-run knock were a treat for all cricket lovers. His sore right shoulder hampered his bowling in the second innings, which gave India a lot of respite. The fiercest of competitors, Ben Stokes, would now be aiming for another dogged fight at the Oval in just 3 days time.
Time For Oval
India now has a great chance of levelling the series at the Oval. It would be a magical end to this riveting and unprecedented Test Series.
Over to the Oval now.
