The Men’s French Open Final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz played out last night at the Philippe-Chatrier Stadium in Roland Garros will go down as of the finest Finals in the history of the sport. The match which lasted for 5 hours and a half, was the longest Final played in the history of the French Open, with Carlos Alcaraz emerging the winner in a dramatic and unprecedented 5 setter.
To describe the match in words will take some getting. The match was of such stature that it had to be seen to be believed. And though I witnessed and sat through the entire match, it is still a challenge to bring it out in words.
Alcaraz and Sinner literally lived the French Open tag line ” Victory Belongs to the Most Tenacious “, and though Alcaraz won, both, the Spaniard and Sinner would have certainly made Napoleon proud.
The match itself was a lesson, not only in Tennis but also in life. Breathtaking ground strokes, sensational winners, impeccable drop shots, unprecedented stamina, a grit stronger than steel, an indefatigable heart and an unflinching self-belief. Both players showed it all, just that Alcaraz had slightly more on that day.
What a match!!
My mind is still held captive by the audacious marathon of a battle.
