Newcastle vs Aston Villa : EPL Match Day 33
The Match Day 33 of the EPL season has arrived with Aston Villa taking on Newcastle at the Villa Park in Birmingham, in one of the most interesting clashes vis a vis the EPL standings and qualification for the Champions League next season.
Aston Villa in Good Form
Aston Villa have been in good form winning 4 consecutive matches in the EPL on the bounce and their spectacular performance against PSG after being two goals down must have given them huge confidence.
The Villans Have Earned Huge Respect
Their valour in a losing cause against the Parisian side earned the Villans huge respect. At the moment they are in 7th place just a point behind Manchester City in 5th. A win over Newcastle will keep them in reckoning for the Champions League.
Newcastle Playing Sublime Football
Newcastle have been in even better form, winning their last five EPL games on the trot. The last two were total decimations of their opposition: a 4-1 victory over Manchester United and a 5-0 whitewash of Crystal Palace a couple of days ago. Nine goals in two days underline their goal-scoring prowess.
The Magpies Flying High With Confidence & Self-Belief
Newcastle’s comprehensive victory over favourites Liverpool in the Carabao Cup has given them loads of confidence and belief. A Champions League finish for the Magpies appears certain, and if they win at Villa Park, Arsenal, in second position at the moment, will feel the heat. Nottingham Forest would also be under pressure to regain their lost third spot in the EPL standings.
Newcastle Have Bern Dominant Over Aston Villa In Recent History
In recent history between the two clubs, Newcastle have had the upper hand winning 4 of their last 5 encounters, while Aston Villa have just won on one occasion. Their last meeting on the 26th of December 2024 witnessed a 3-0 victory for Newcastle.
Aston Villa & An Ominous Lineup
Aston Villa are without any major injury concerns and would continue to field more or less the same squad that got past PSG last week. The Villans with Rogers, McGinn, Tielemans, and Rashford are good upfront and can pose problems for any side, and with them playing on their home ground, the front line looks ominous.
A Rampant Newcastle
Newcastle, too, do not have any major fitness concerns, and with a rampant forward line of Murphy, Isak, Anthony Gordon ( expected to join the squad), and even Harvey Barnes, the Magpies look too good. The Villans would be expecting a tired bunch of Magpies playing their 3rd game within a week’s time and that would be their chance against Newcastle.
My Prediction
A packed Villa Park it would be, cheering their team as vociferously as possible, and though the Villans are playing well, I expect a 2-0 win for Newcastle.
