A Repeat Of Last Year & A Purple Thrashing
KKR vs SRH, was a repeat of last year’s IPL Final. The same result and the same one-sided affair. SRH had received a thrashing last time and last night too, they were thrashed black and blue and turned purple by a more driven and purposeful KKR.
A Crucial Game For KKR
It was a crucial game for the Defending Champions as they had received a mauling at the hands of the Mumbai Indians in their last match. They had to bounce back and they did so in style, beating SRH by a mammoth 80 runs.
A Venkatesh Iyer Blinder Puts SRH On the Backfoot
KKR vs SRH. KKR did not start well when put in to bat by Pat Cummins. They lost their openers quickly before Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied the innings and added vital runs. However, KKR were not in a good position at 106-4 in the 13th over. Rinku and Venkatesh Iyer in particular, with his 60 of 29 balls, played a blinder and got KKR to a fighting 200. Some ordinary death bowling and lackluster fielding added to SRH’s misery in the field. Pat Cummins received a real hammering from Venkatesh Iyer, taking the SRH captain for a good 22-run over.
SRH Go Down
SRH with their batting, might have fancied chasing down 201 for victory, but yet another batting failure at the top and in the middle led to an abysmal 120 all out and a terrible, confidence-shattering 80-run loss for the Orange Brigade.
SRH ‘s Batting Woes & Average Bowling
With Abhishek Sharma not amongst the runs and Ishan Kishan being inconsistent, the batting mantle weighs heavily on Travis Head for SRH. The southpaw has been doing his bit, but it is humanly impossible to venture out and belt the ball every time. Nitish Reddy, too, has been disappointing, and Heinrich Klassen has not been able to score anything big for his team. Aniket Verma has been a real find, but the youngster too perished early last night. If SRH continue to play one way only, they might find themselves struggling more often than winning, because of the fact that their bowling is just not good enough, and if they need to win, the batting has to fire.
A Tough Introspection Required For The Orange Army
An incisive introspection is required in the SRH camp. Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Reddy and Klassen need to take more responsibility, while Pat Cummins and Simarjeet Singh need massive improvement in the bowling department. Shami too needs to get the breakthroughs early on. SRH have reached the bottom of the table after 3 consecutive losses post a resounding win in the first match with their NRR in absolute tatters. A mighty effort would be required from here on for the Hyderabadis to resurrect their campaign.
KKR Look Good With A Terrific Bowling Attack
KKR looked good last night and the team management would be more than pleased with the performance of Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh. They already have a terrific bowling attack and Vaibhav Arora, with a fine spell of 3/29 in 4 overs, was deservedly declared the POTM.
